Not only do I appreciate electronic musicians who produce their own original tracks, I also enthusiastically enjoy how they reinterpret music from other genres in their own unique way. Like what San Holo did to Dr. Dre's "The Next Episode," electronic music has the power to evolve by taking the old and making it something entirely new while preserving the essence of the original track. This is especially true with "Ignition" by MYRNE, a rising Singaporean producer and a member of Diplo's label, Mad Decent, who paid homage to a classic song from the King of R&B, R. Kelly.
MYRNE's jazzy, Future Bass-esque, and PBR&B style reinterpretation of "Ignition" involves an immaculate arrangement, an energetic, explosive chord progression and the obvious nostalgic vocals that is as resonant and lasting as it were back in the early 2000's. It's not the freaking weekend yet but you can rest assured that you'll still have some fun listening to this track wherever you are.
"Ignition" is available as a free download here.
